Ludovico Einaudi - The Art of Expressing Your Whole Life and the Bliss of Being Underwater
Show Notes

This week's guest is the world-famous composer and pianist, Ludovico Einaudi.

With 15 studio albums and over 80 films and TV shows to his name, he is one of the most prolific composers alive today. Ludovico repeatedly tops the classical charts globally. Incredibly, one in 10 classical streams in the UK come from his music, equating to over 1 million streams a day and 2.4 billion streams in total. He is the highest-streamed classical artist of all time.

Ludovico’s latest album flowed naturally out of him during the pandemic and is appropriately titled Underwater, as it was a creative deep dive to another place, "where he could swim freely without thoughts, without travel, and the usual rush of touring." As you can imagine, it is a wonderful soundtrack for the Slo Mo life.

A biography of a musician can only tell you so much about them, so I’d recommend streaming his music, even during this episode, to get a feel for the heart and soul of one of the great musical icons of our time as he invites us into his mind.

Listen as we discuss:

  • Why does music make us feel so deeply?
  • Ludovico's upbringing with music and a beautiful explanation of his inspiration.
  • His stint with rock n'roll as a young boy. (Even Ludovico was inspired by The Beatles.)
  • Writing his new album, Underwater, during the pandemic, a result of new appreciation.
  • His incredible performance on an iceberg to bring attention to climate change.
  • The most beautiful thing we can do is enjoy nature. Everything else is distraction.
  • Grating carrots by hand instead of using a machine, a true Slo Mo habit.
  • Music is not just sound, but a holistic expression of your life.
