Dr. Pim van Lommel - A Life-Changing Conversation on the Evidence of Consciousness Beyond Death
Show Notes

I can say confidently that this episode is the most personal to me. After losing my son Ali, I've dedicated a lot of time to understanding the topic of death. After all, as a parent, you want to know your child is safe, no matter where he is. After this conversation with Pim, I feel more and more that I can rest easy.

Before we get into it, I need to issue a warning. Despite having proper equipment in place, the internet connection did not serve us well and led to a poorer quality recording than we are used to. We initially shelved this recording as unusable, which broke my heart because it is perhaps the most powerful conversation I've ever had. After re-reviewing and touching it up using the best audio magicians available, I decided I just had to release this. I ask only for your mercy in terms of the audio quality, though I'm certain it will be powerful for you too.

For more than twenty years cardiologist Dr. Pim van Lommel has studied near-death experiences (NDEs) in patients who survived a cardiac arrest. In 2001, Dr. van Lommel and others published their seminal study on the subject in the reputable medical journal The Lancet.

In 2007 he published in The Netherlands his bestselling book, which was translated into English in 2010 as Consciousness Beyond Life: The Science of the Near-Death Experience. Over the past several years Pim van Lommel has been lecturing all over the world on near-death experiences and the relationship between consciousness and brain function.

Listen as we discuss:

  • How a sudden death is never unexpected.
  • The signs my dad gave me before he died that foreshadowed he would be leaving.
  • The date of your natural death is already stored in your consciousness.
  • Heartbreaking yet amazing stories of children who foreshadowed their own deaths.
  • Pim's experience in the 1960's as one of the pioneers of coronary care.
  • Near-death experiences (NDE's) are spiritual traumas that take decades to process.
  • The definition and features of a NDE
  • How modern medicine has allowed us to "bring people back" to tell their stories.
  • How NDE's can happen even in everyday life, including during meditation.
  • "I am a body" vs. "I have a body," and incredible stories of out of body experiences.
  • Why do we need our organs at all if consciousness functions without them?
  • The politics of why NDE studies are suppressed in academia and medicine.
  • My feelings seeing Ali's body as "not him" after he passed.
  • Is there a practice to acquire the heightened "powers" of an NDE without having one?
  • Psychedelics and the features they share in common with NDE's.
  • What is the abundance of love we feel at higher states of consciousness?
  • Mindsight, and how the blind can see during NDE's.
  • What is death?
  • How I still chat with Ali, and how I believe he warned me about COVID.
  • If the game never ends, that's exactly why you need to keep playing.
