Mo Gawdat and Becky Morrison

Today's guest is Becky Morrison. This was such a lovely talk and exactly the refresher we all need every once in a while to remind ourselves that life doesn't have to be so hard.

Becky is a mom, wife and former lawyer turned Happiness Coach. Her mission is to spread joy. She believes most people can live happier, easier lives if they get clear on what matters most to them and then develop a plan to do more of that and less of the rest. If she can help enable people to find clarity and happiness, then everyone wins.

Similar to how I applied my engineering skills to solving for happy, Becky applies her knowledge of people and processes from her 20+ years in corporations, law firms, and small businesses, as well as the wisdom from her own journey (and near-death experience), to help people find their unique recipe for happiness.

Becky brings together all her learnings in her recently published book The Happiness Recipe: A Powerful Guide to Living What Matters.

Listen as we discuss:

  • Becky's near death experience, in which her "last" thoughts were about work - talk about a wake-up call.
  • Why do we get so swept up in work and let the important parts of life pass us by?
  • Be aware of the season your life is in right now, and adapt accordingly.
  • We shouldn't have to wait until the end of life to figure out what matters to us.
  • A thread of asking "What makes you happy?" leads you to your unique source of joy.
  • We're stuck on measuring impact and purpose in the wrong ways.
  • The shortfalls of hustle culture and why success doesn't have to feel so difficult.
  • It's important to say no everyday.
  • Are we matching our effort and resources to the things that matter to us?
